Location: San Antonio, TX

This project represents the third phase of our dacade-long work at La Cantera for San Antonio-based USAA. This collaboration with LRK Architects began with Master Planning for a large mixed-use community that will extend east from the existing shops and lifestyle center to create a fully functional town center at La Cantera. This mixed-use building and park represent the first phase of that larger vision. The project is designed to create an urban village feel, with a unique streetscape environment on each side of the building. The courtyards combine old-world and contemporary influences to create spaces that will draw residents out into the garden. The 3-acre park to the east of the building will serve as the public heart of the multi-phase development, with an urban plaza at the north end and open lawn and shaded picnic areas throughout. At the south end of the park, a wet pond will provide wildlife habitat and treat stormwater from the building's roof. A cistern adjacent to the wet pond will collect condensate water from the building to provide base-flow for the pond and irrigation water for the park.
